How GX Works: Who Else Will Be There?
"My counterpart turned out to be the most amazing, puzzling and wacky friend I have ever had. It took me six months to appreciate this, though. Along the way I thought she was unreasonable, difficult and at times very bizarre. Now I can't think of her without smiling."

Whether you take part in Youth Xchange or Youth Action, you will be working with a group of young volunteers, made up of people from the UK and from the overseas country that you’re based in. You’ll also work with all kinds of people and organisations in the local community.
Youth Xchange:
As a participant of Youth Xchange, you’ll be teamed up with people from your exchange country in what we call a "counterpart pair".
You’ll have two partners - one who you’ll work with during your volunteer placement, one who you’ll live with in your host homes. You’ll help them with your country, customs and language, and vice versa. There’s no better way to get under the skin of your placement country.
Youth Action:
As a participant of Youth Action, you’ll work in groups of 5 to 10 UK volunteers and 5 to 10 volunteers from the host country. Most placements will also involve living with a local family.
Through living and working with people in a different culture, you will learn a lot about the community that you are based in.
