The good news is that you don’t need to have any qualifications or experience to take part. As a general rule, you must fall in to one of the categories below to be considered to take part.
UK Citizens
Any UK citizen who has a current UK address. UK citizens currently living overseas but returning in time to attend assessment and training days are eligible.
EEA Citizens
Any EEA citizens who are currently resident in the UK and has been a UK resident for at least 12 months immediately prior to application.
Permanent UK residents holding other nationality passports
Any permanent UK resident who has been granted indefinite leave to remain - this will be clearly printed in your passport. Applicants must have been resident in the UK for at least 12 months immediately prior to application. We must be able to obtain an entry visa to exchange countries and applicants should be aware that this may limit the exchange country options for holders of some nationality passports.
The following criteria apply to all applicants:
All applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 22 on the date they are due to start their selected programme. We recognize that some circumstances beyond the control of the volunteer will lead to their departure being delayed and if the volunteer turns 23 in the meantime this should not prevent them continuing to participate.
All applicants MUST be living in the UK from the start of the assessment period until the date of departure.
All UK based applicants must be able to support and guide their counterparts in the UK phase, and are therefore required to have a good grasp of English.
Global Xchange actively aims to reflect the diversity of UK society, in geographical, social and ethnic background and gender. We welcome applications from young people who have a disability.
Please note that you can't apply for GX if you have previously been a participant on GX or any other ICS programme.
